My Greatest Sports Memory

My greatest sports memory happened July 28th, 1994.

A lefty by the name of Kenny Rogers threw a perfect game. I can still recall parts of the game vividly even though it was thirteen years ago. However, I did Google the box score of the game to refresh my memory.http://www.baseball-almanac.com/boxscore/07281994.shtml

It was a typical hot, humid Texas summer night. The Texas Rangers were playing the California Angels (as they were known at the time) and I was 9 years old. I can remember the game started out well for the Rangers and my favorite player at the time, Jose Canseco hit a home run.

I also remember that Rangers centerfielder, Rusty Greer had two spectacular diving catches in the later innings to keep the perfect game intact. I believe one was in the 8th inning and I am sure the second was the first out of the ninth inning.

The feat of pitching a perfect game can only happen when everything falls into place and a pitcher has all of his pitches working. It is such a rare occurance I feel priviledged to have seen one in person at the major league level. After the game I wanted to be a major leaguer so badly I became even more dedicated to baseball and wanted to learn everything about the game.

Hey Kyle:

Nice job here - just a couple of things.

First, you can skip the "th" after the date of the game. AP style says leave them out.

You should also say "nine years old," as opposed to using the number.

No comma after "Rangers outfielder..." It should just read "Rangers outfielder Rusty Greer..." He was quite a player, by the way.

It's "privileged" not "priviledged."

And it is quite an honor to attend a perfect game - there have only been a handful in ML history. I liked the link to baseball almanac - really nice touch.

Two points.
