You Know Me Al

Greetings:

In anticipation for our discussion of Ring Lardner on Tuesday, check out arguably his most famous work. In it, we meet Jack Keefe, a fictional rookie having his first taste of professional baseball.

Could (or do) today's sports journalists get away with a fictionalized account like this?

Is there ever a place for fictional characters within journalism? After all, that's what got Jayson Blair fired?

Who would you write about if you were contemplating an approach like this?
